The current Wigan Pier Quarter Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plan dates to 2002. Reviewing and revising them will ensure that they accurately reflect the current condition of the historic Wigan Pier and the special features that help it an important place to work and live.

The reappraisal identifies proposed changes to the boundary of the Conservation Area to ensure that the boundary provides adequate protection to Wigan Pier.
The management plan sets out guidance to ensure that future development and management of the Conservation Area conserves the special characteristics of the area.
