Guide to the Parish Church of St. Wilfrid, Standish
St Wilfrid’s Church Standish is the only Grade 1 listed building in Wigan Borough. The main body of the church dates from the 1580s but we know there was a church on the site from 1205 if not earlier. It is packed with historic features and artefacts. Much has been written about them over the years. Here we share a guide from 1979 which was revised in the 1990’s, and two links to extensive notes written in the early 1900s. The spire which was rebuilt in the 1860s is currently (2024) in need of repair along with the clock.
