James Brown lived at Crawford Villas, Highfield Lane, Aspull "or possibly Haigh".
In May 1882, at his home, he was presented with an illuminated address by the Mayor Wigan, in recognition of his silver wedding, and his services as an author and reciter of his dialect poetry to various charities and worthy causes.
In 1881 a collection of his poems and recitations were published and printed by R. Platt, 2, Standishgate, Wigan.
James seemed to be well connected looking at the list at the List of Subscribers, a veritable who's-who of mid Victorian Wigan.
